Jers Journey: To Find My Artistic Voice
My name is Jeremiah Grande. I am a 43 year old man revisiting a childhood passion. I have 2 wonderful children and a wife of 21 years. I met my wife, after the US Army brought me to her hometown. I stayed there for 4 years. I met & married my best friend and have been here ever since. I enjoy music, cars and the outdoors, as well as art.
Art has always been a part of my life in some form from an early age. I always enjoyed drawing hot rod cars and cartoon characters. I took an art class in high school & loved every discipline that was taught, from painting to pottery. That spurred me to want to draw even more. I had a sketchbook and drew on a regular basis, but never learned a daily “habit”. Later in life, after having school-age kids, the second wave of art inspiration came. If a project came home, I got the opportunity to flex my creative mind and assist with the project. I always loved it. My children inherited some of those creative talents as well. Just a few years ago, I got the passion back to concentrate on drawing. I attempted a #365Day project (https://www.instagram.com/jersjourney/). I enjoyed the journey, but didn’t make all 365 days. It did, however, help me develop more of a daily habit & I definitely draw more now and look for new challenges.
My biggest challenge in art is not getting caught up in the details and being a perfectionist with every piece. Not every car has to be to scale and not every person has to have the right proportions. I need to loosen up more.
I want to learn for from the Masters, from art history. I have studied most concepts that interest me on my own, but I haven’t studied art history or learned to identify their work.
I think Drawing Academy is a great place to start getting the education that I am missing. And it is a community of support along my journey as an artist.
I want to win the coarse to the valuable resources and the invaluable resource of community that can last a lifetime.
I have rekindled my passion for drawing and art as a whole. I will continue my journey to find out all the different ways art speaks to me. I look at the world from an artistic viewpoint. “Can I draw that landscape?” “Where is the vanishing point of those buildings?” I notice patterns, textures and colors everywhere. I have no lack of inspiration or visual cues. This world is a beautiful place. I just need to put it down on paper. That is my dilemma.
