I am DORU

I am DORU,

A lover of and provider art who has reached almost six decades of life.

Ever since I was 13 years old, due to the guidance of the drawing professor, I have been lucky enough to stay on a drawing stool, in front of a drawing board that I was not separated from for the next 10 years, in which I have learned a lot about art (artistic middle school, artistic high-school, a post-high-school art school) when I have specialized in sculpture. At age 23, after my marriage came my first son and thus work as a designing drawing technician involved in construction work. After two years, I have established and led a group of designers and I have been in charge of exhibitions presenting most of the accomplishments in construction work, and that had been very often visited by communist dignitaries. Back in those days, graphics was made with bare hands or using collages drawn on palettes and building layouts; of course, the text was written manually. I have worked ever since I was young in book publishing and printing marketing publications including book covers, posters, calendars, technical catalogues, printed greeting cards. Colour selection was made in tempera, gouache or ink with pens and brushes over laminated cardboard.

Simultaneously, I have made several kinds of decorative easel painting sketches for money. At age 35, I was fortunate enough to attend the 1989 Revolution in Bucharest, and this event has changed by life. Along with freedom came the chance to travel to see many European museums, galleries, architecture and I had orders of easel oil paintings from customers in Austria and Germany, but mostly reproductions of great impressionist painters. When computer emerged as a graphic tool, and a good source of income, I was able to exploit its full potential as a permanent industrial designer where I currently work, and I am involved in graphic design work including posters, flyers, catalogues, and artwork in Photoshop, Corel and 3D works. I have also had a series of collaborations with publishers and printers or gaming companies, and I get orders for easel painting in various styles from different historical periods. My work only belongs to the family and is not for sale. It is the joy of my sons but it is not very well „tasted” by the public.

Recently, over the last years, I have focused on drawing pastel portraits with photo models commissioned on the Internet as they sell a little better. I am enjoying more my family and friends, and I have quite a full programme, so it is sometimes difficult to fulfil them. I like colour, easel painting that I fondly do whenever I have time, art history, philosophy, museums, the unseen, the unknown and I love dreaming. I love all arts and artists and their products. And of course, you can live from art, but this can mean doing all sorts of compromises. Although I have sculptor skills, I have not managed to materialize then for lack of space and money for materials; this is life. My soul rests with the Great Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Cezanne, impressionists, Picasso …

I have learnt all my life; I would like to know more about the work even if sometimes I do not agree that things do not always work for me. Thank you very much!

I am not able to speak English fluently, but I can understand most written texts, so this online course could work miracles for me!

One morning, as I was waiting to hear that I would have a granddaughter, I was sitting on my son’s balcony at the 6th floor and I was looking to the Alps. It was a sunny day in Munchen.
