Artwork by Philip L Fairbairn

Hello and good day every one.

My name is Philip L Fairbairn I’m a self taught artist from Canada. I was drawing at age ten. My dad got me a mail in art class that you would see in the back of a Magazine, you had to draw the Pirate with the eye patch to see if you had what it took to be an artist. Funny, I thought even as young as I was, I bet everyone is excepted as an artist LOL. I would sneak out of bed in the middle of the night and look at the pictures of Renaissance paintings that were in this big old Bible that my dad would read all the time. I couldn’t pronounce the names of the painters that painted them, But I just new that one day I’ll paint like that one day to.

You ask what place art takes in my life? Its hard to tell when art is your life. You become fused together like some giant idea that can never quite be interpreted, so it drives you to the next empty oil ground stretched linen that you know for sure will have all the answers.

The challenge I have in art is. When I sit in front of my Linen canvas and pick up the brush I will always try to paint what you can’t see, even the tiniest of marks are the most important on my canvas and I wont sleep till they are made. To me this is the secret to making a masterpiece.

I have never been satisfied with my drawing. I mean sure I draw and I get it done but I always felt like I was missing something in my technique.

I have spent many hours going through all the videos on WebArtAcademy.com over the years and I get overwhelmed with the talent that I see. There is no questioning the success of the Academy. or the people there. To win this contest would finally put the questions I have about my drawing to rest.

People shouldn’t vote for me, They should vote for art. And ask did this artist just throw something at my feet or did this artist truly try to move and inspire me as an onlooker. If you are inspired then art wins.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
