Art with a purpose

My name is Sharon Kiewitz. Recently I started a new job. I work at a safety facility for youth that has been sentenced or is on awaiting trial.

Part of my job is to run upliftment programs. A month ago I started to draw. Drawings that I have copied and from that I launch a discussion.

One night I was drawing in the dorm and the children was standing around me. After I was finished ‘ they wanted to copy the drawing. The next night I arrived with some pencils’ paper and erases. Needless to day’s they enjoyed themselves.

It was only after a friend told me of your drawing academy and I read some of your articles that I realized that if I continue to use drawing as a medium for my programs. I need help. I don’t know the basics of drawing ( and yes’ I use my finger for shadings…)

I want to improve my drawing and when discussing are over and the children wants to draw, I can at lease show them the basics and techniques of art.

If one of them turns their life around and are interested to make art their preferred career… the sky will be the limit for him!
