Art as Life’s “prism”

Art as Life’s “prism”

My earliest memories of drawing and painting were formed before I was seven. Throughout my school years, drawing was integral to my experience; my father purchased my first easel when I was about 12, and in both Junior High and High School, I received honorable mention for various compositions.

Moreover I continue to pursue studio and drawing courses in college and at the Cleveland Museum of Art: graphite, pen and ink, pastel (dry and oil), water color and oil painting (with which I fell love) are the mediums with which I have continued to experiment.

This training brought me in touch with the works of artistic masters of the Renaissance period; it was during this time during my formative years, that I was smitten by the exquisite draftsmanship of Leonardo da Vinci, with his incredible attention to detail of the human body and plant life. It was in this context of experience that the love of capturing natural phenomenon, from an artistic perspective, was sown in my heart.

Art is both a creative process and a spiritual journey for me. When creating I feel complete. To be endowed with artistic aptitude is one thing, but to develop this aptitude to a level where it becomes self sustaining is what motivates me.

And to use this gift to create a “prism” through which others can “see” the natural world around them, as a gift from our Creator, is to me one of the highest forms of expression. I feel strongly that The Drawing Academy can assist me in refining my skill set, to assist me in beautifully betraying the natural world around us, in such way that others are compelled to give serious pause to the inherent beauty in our Creator’s handy-work.

It is so delicate yet so strong . You have portrayed nature at its finest! Untouched by mankind! If I were standing in front of your painting, I would be tempted to pluck this flower off the canvas . Then I would place it in my hair . Confident that you would create another masterpiece ! Thank you for your gift !
