Artwork and story from Orion
My artist name is Orion and I’m a student in highschool. I’ve been drawing since I was 6, and I still clearly remember scribbling a princess in a storybook a friend gave me. I’m not sure, but something has always drawn me to art. The beauty, the variety, the creativity? I love it.
To learn how to improve I would scour through videos on Youtube or Twitch, trying to find some artist’s process when creating art. Some could say I was successful, as my art gradually improved over the years. Around four to five years ago my parents bought me a drawing tablet (Huion H610 Pro), one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. It felt magical and surreal.
However, I’m not actively pursuing a career in art. I had weighed the pros and cons and just didn’t feel comfortable actively pursuing it with the risks and my insecurity towards my art. I resigned to leaving art as a hobby, but that realization also hindered my art growth and left me in a static place for a while. I’ve broken out of that art block, but it made me realize that unless I actively try to improve I might not draw ever again.
Even so, searching for a free art course was harder than expected, which is why I want to win this course.
The Drawing Academy seems too good to be true. It looks like a solid course, and I tend to need a guided outline to learn. Even though I lean more towards digital art, I once heard an artist say it is better to learn the ‘rules’ before you break them. One day I want to be good enough where I can switch careers to art. So, even if I might not win I still want to try.
