The Psychology of Shadows
Artwork and story from Krystan-Grace
Hello!
My name is Krystan-Grace and I have been drawing/painting for 3 1/2 years now. I first began drawing as a form of meditation to see me through a really rough time in my life and I haven’t put down my pencils since. I find zoning out and drawing for hours on end to be so therapeutic and currently teach art to others so that they can hopefully find some meditation through it as well – I believe everyone’s an artist, it’s just a matter of refining your style. I truly believe that humans are absolutely amazing and I love to explore this through my art, the things that we do, make and believe are simple fantastic. We are capable of so much yet we seem to focus on the negatives about humanity, I think we should give ourselves more credit and learn to see just how amazing we can be. Through my art I like to express my curiosity about humans (history, psychology, sociology, you name it, anything that makes us, us) and explore visual ways of expressing my admiration. For the longest time I have adored the interaction of highlights and shadows, so this is a key feature in my artwork. I use highlights and shadows to bring artworks to life, without these elements being strong I feel my art lacks in depth. Art is not a part of my life, art is my life, I am a full-time artist (mostly teaching others through workshops and selling commissions). I have dabbled in other careers but I just can’t do anything except for art. When something is engrained in you as much as art is with me, it’s truly hard to ignore and to give your energy to anything else. I am self taught, my current challenges lie with progressing my technical skill to the next level, I would simply love to push myself with my theory and developmental practice to produce more artwork of humans and everything that we’re about. I would love to learn more about anatomy and the human form, I feel like this will help progress my art further. I’ve been following the Drawing Academy for a while now and I love the community that you have, from what I’ve seen your teachings are next to none and it seems like a real platform where feedback is honest and true but not hurtful and always with the best intention.
I’d love to win the Drawing Academy course to help further my art skills to produce more artwork that will help me explore my curiosities in life and possibly help me figure out some things about myself. I’d love to study anatomy with you and learn everything there is to know about our physiology and form – hopefully using these skills to explore how our minds work! People should vote for me because I am an incredibly passionate artist who would love to be a part of your course and community. This course would give me the push I need to start selling my own work and hopefully expand my skills so I can introduce others to more areas of art and help strengthen the artistic community. I honestly can’t express just how much it would mean to me to win this. I hope you like my art
