My Artist Wants Out
Art has always been a part of my life. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My great uncle was a wood worker, both of my parents can draw and all of my brothers and sisters can draw. When I was around 13 or 14, my father brought home a book he had picked up in Florida. It was “Faeries” by Alan Lee and Brian Froud. I was completely hooked! This book indulged my curiosity and lit a fire inside of me. I drew from that book religiously. However, I could never render my own images as well. I still can’t.
Art is a need. It’s not a want. I have tried several times to put it on the back burner, to no avail. I have given away supplies only to end up buying more. I need to do this. I want to do it well. I haven’t always had the time I need to put pen to paper or brush to canvas. That is now changing.
Being largely self taught, I lack a solid foundation from which to build on. I have images in my head that I just can’t get down on paper. It’s quite frustrating. I have learned some from books, but they just don’t do it for me. There’s always something missing. I know I need to get out of my own way, but not being able to render an image successfully is a large part of my problem.
Drawing Academy is just what I need. It’s chock full of relevant information, and I can do it at my own pace. Just having feedback from professionals would mean so much! This course would give me the tools I need to become the artist I know I can be.
Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio are two of my favorites. Drawing Academy would be a huge stepping stone that would allow me to move on to Old Masters Academy with confidence.

Alan Lee is my favorite artist too! I love the sketch drawing and watercolor paiting he did for The Lord of the Rings. It’s fantastic. Wish I could find your competition earlier so I could vote you.
