My journey with academic drawing
Artwork and story from Asmaa Abuhadid
I started drawing 15 years ago, when I was in the ninth grade, I used to draw anime and my favorite characters, but in university I used to draw portraits using squares only, after that I stopped drawing for a while, and started academic drawing in 2021, and I stayed at the Art Institute for two years, but I only learned to draw still life with pencil and oil colors, and how to draw pictures on canvas, but I never learned portraiture in an academic way, and now I am very interested in drawing portraits and bodies and I have difficulty drawing them even though my level in oil painting is advanced.
Art is my way of sharing my thoughts and feelings that I often can’t express otherwise.
I have a big challenge in getting the body proportions right, when it comes to drawing poses other than standing, and I also have a challenge in drawing the different expressions of the face, and I am slow in taking measurements and freehand drawing, as I always have to use the page division and take illogical measurements between elements to get them right.
I want to learn how to draw portraits and bodies in an accurate academic way under the supervision of specialists in the field.
I think that it is very nice to have the Drawing Academy that teaches drawing at this professional level online.
I took several training courses that were of little use except in still life, and I applied the portrait lesson of the teacher Vladimir London and it was a very successful training (the result of the training in the attachments), and I want to learn from him all the lessons that will help me in my career, in addition to giving me direct advice because most of the lessons on the Internet depend on the student’s comparisons with himself without a reliable reference from the teacher, and I also like to depict different subjects in my paintings and still life subjects have become restrictive to me. I want to express myself through features, gestures and body movements.
People should vote for me because my works are spiritually deep and express my surroundings and shared memories among all my generation, I always try to stay away from copying images found on the internet, even when I imitate paintings I put my own stamp on them.
