Drawings and story from Laura Yochum

Let’s see, about me: retired after working since I was 15 years old. I’ve worked hard and am grateful and appreciative to all I’ve achieved. I’ve accepted many challenges and have strived to achieve or complete them to the best of my ability. After retiring, I found myself, well, empty, lost and without purpose. I struggled with this for several years trying to find a new passion, a new purpose to fill all this empty time. I remembered doing a bit of drawing in my younger years, mostly for grade school academics, and found it quite satisfying and rewarding, while also quite challenging. Boom, the Trifecta for me. It amazed me how artists could produce such astonishingly realistic work, and I’ve always wished I had been born with the “God given” talent to do it as well.

I thought I might give it a go to see if I could learn how to draw. So in September 2024, I bought some simple materials and started drawing. I watched some videos for some tips on how to do things which were challenging to me, mostly how to achieve a more realistic and three dimensional look. Further I have read that anyone can learn to draw, “God given” is not a requirement, so I think there is hope.

In searching through videos online I ran across the Drawing Academy. What great content, instruction, support and feedback they offer. This would surely boost my drawing skills, and who knows, maybe I could learn a bit of watercolor or painting. I would love the opportunity to win the contest, which would boost my confidence and skills to a level I never imagined or could achieve on my own.

Thank you for taking the time to learn my story, although quite the condensed version, and I hope you will consider voting for me. I promise, it will not go without my deepest gratitude. I think I have found my new passion, my new purpose, my new challenge. Help me realize the unimaginable.
