Self-taught
Artwork and story from Fran Green
I’ve only been drawing for a few years. When my daughter was born, I had the urge to draw things again, which I hadn’t had since I was 13. I taught myself and haven’t had an art lesson since I was at school, around 30 years ago. Everything you see, I’ve worked out from observation, real-life or from making lots of mistakes.
I’m not really motivated by money so I haven’t built any up and I prefer to work things out myself rather than ask for help. However, I would be fascinated to compare what I’ve taught myself with what an actual art academy would teach; what would the affect on my art be? I’m sure there are lots of things I’m doing wrong (I suspect that structure is what I need to work on, but who knows?).
I work as a designer (engineheadstudio.co.uk) with a special interest in Nature and natural forms. A lot of my work comes to me while I’m out long-distance running in the Peak District in England. You can read my writing (about art, running and more) and buy my work over at between6and16miles.co.uk
