Artwork and story from John Andrew
My name is John Andrew, and ever since I was a young boy, I have always admired the old masters for how they drew and painted and how they portrayed the world around them using their red chalk and imagination. I am in awe of their work and how they show their emotions and personalities with each line of the crosshatch they do. I think art is God’s gift to men. God’s creation of this beautiful world is an art itself, no even greater than that. Every thing that I see the beautiful sunset, the sky, and the trees is a blessing that inspires me to know and understand what this beauty in front of me is. For me, art is a tool. A tool of inspiration to portray the world through your own eyes through your imagination. I draw and paint on my free time but there are times that I feel down when I see my art not looking as it should be. Sometimes I procrastinate continuing it because it looks bad, and sometimes I get frustrated and abandon it completely for another project. I want to learn and draw like how the old masters drew and interpret the world in my own way. I want the world to see how I see the world through my own eyes and using my own hands and imagination.
I think the Drawing Academy is one of the best art institutions out there. Not only does it preserve artistic tradition, but it also encourages people to use one’s imagination to interpret and draw the world around them, not just the world around but also their imagination. I live in a third-world country where I simply cannot afford to subscribe to your program, although I want to if money permits, so I am joining this competition and hoping to win so that I can improve my artistic skills and knowledge and pursue my dream of becoming a great artist like Leonardo da Vinci. People should vote for me, for I want to use this opportunity to not only improve but also to teach and inspire others about the joy of drawing and painting and to use their imagination, art skills, and knowledge to interpret the world and change the world through their art.
