Previously, I had submitted a portrait that attempted to deal with full direct lighting. This portrait attempts to project three dimensional volume by utilizing light so that the face is half in shadow. This particular subject and approach is inspired by the paintings of Zhaoming Wu. I think in addition to providing volume and depth to a painting or drawing, deep shadow adds mystery to the subject.
