The Colors of Murano – Italy

This painting was inspired from the extraordinary contrasting colors we find the Italian landscape, in this case in the narrow canals of Murano, located just across the lagoon from Venice.

I worked my way first with a solid drawing of the scene, obeying linear perspective (one or two points) and I didn’t start laying paint until I was satisfied with the base drawing.

My focal point is the blue cargo boat in the foreground, but the buildings in the background with the strong color variations and even broken stucco are hard to ignore.
