It was very funny when Johann told me he is working on a drawing with the same subject :) . An old lady and what a lady !!
I struggled a little bit with this drawing and I must tell I completely erased twice all the rendering. The character was a person dear to me and who left me some very nice memories of a happy childhood.
I used two pencils HB and 3B (and of course a good eraser :)) .

One of the interesting things in the “Drawing Academy” it is meeting people with the same interests. One of these people is Lucian with whom I could exchange my thoughts recently to the drawings. Especially at this picture, I was very eager about the result of Lucian. I am thrilled how two different people are capture the same subject on a piece of paper – whether they use an eraser or not.
Now I can see the result with a very natural appearence and fine renderings
interrupted by very interesting rough strokes.
From my side – and my whole family – a huge compliment to Lucian and his great drawing!

It is amazing to me that you were able to create this with a pencil. Her eyes are so lovely. Her nose has a 3D effect that sets it proportionally ahead of her eyes at just the right value. This is surely a work of love, patience, and skill.
Thank you Steve! That is sure this is a work of love and patience but concerning the skill I am still working on :) . Hopefully I have access to some very good material on this site in order to get the help I need :) .

The portrait appears to be a striking resemblance. Well done. I am curious however, did you use white pencil?

No, no white pencil. I only left the brightest areas untouched.
That is the color of the paper. As a trick I used a soft brush. So they are some areas of the paper which are looking untouched but.. they aren’t :) !
For the hair I did it in few layers and used “sharp” eraser.
