Portrait of a man

I found I like to draw old men portraits. Depicting grey hairs is always a challenge but it seems to work now!

Before, I used to draw with soft grade pencils (4b to 8b); and now I enjoy some brighter tones. For this drawing, I used 4H and 2B.

Best regards,
Lucian

  2. Dear Johann,

Thank you very much for the nice words! And yes! A big thank you to Vladimir and Natalie! I found many gems inside this course and some very good and pertinent advices.

I think the face is interesting , I liked the tiered expression, the smiling eyes and the real smile that’s never coming.

I also must say I am a big fan of yours drawings! I hope you will let us see some more of them.

    Best regards,
    Lucian

    1. Thank you Jean! I also love your work and hope to see some more of your drawings.
From my side I never tried colored pencils , I do not feel I am ready yet :). Maybe in the future.

      Best Regards,
      Lucian

  5. Lucian,

This portrait is very well done. I was struck by the realistic view of the drawing.

Generally the use of white is discouraged in drawing because it lays on top of the drawing. However, your use of white in this drawing works well.

The smaller black lines within the drawing are sharp. Hard lines in a drawing sometimes can “flatten” the drawing and cause it to have less depth.

Again, the portrait is well done. It shows the character of the man.

  6. Helllo Dale,

Thank you for your comments. No white pencil is used be assured :). Only a sharp eraser .
    Kind regards,
    Lucian
