What is Drawing
When it comes to the question “What is Drawing“, a fine artist should know that drawing is the art or skill of making drawn pictures, diagrams and creative artworks.
How to Make a Collage in Calligraphy
In this “What is Drawing” video lesson on the creative composition we will include the banknote, and some calligraphic lines that will go on top of this bill. Other calligraphic lines will remain underneath while making a collage. When it comes to a topic of how to make a collage, you can draw full calligraphic decoration on the yellow-brown paper in black ink, first. Then I will glue the banknote, making a collage, partially covering calligraphic lines. Finally, I will redraw some covered lines on the banknote in ink, while leaving chosen parts of the lines under the note. This approach of how to make a collage will give an additional decorative effect, as if the organic curves of the swirl go both on top and underneath the banknote, making it more integrated into the composition of the artwork.
The main reason to go for non-water based glue, like PVA, is that water will expand paper, and some bubbles or waves may appear while making a collage.
I’m covering the full surface of the piece of banknote with the glue. The piece fits perfectly with the contours of the female figure. Later it will be glued in place permanently.
We repeat the exercise of how to make a collage for the second bigger piece of the banknote. This stick-glue is specifically designed with paper in mind; it doesn’t expand the paper nor leave visible marks, which is very important for the artwork. Other makes of glue, like M3, are also suitable for the job, and it is up to you on the make you use for making a collage.
The banknote is glued on the artwork, and all that is left now is to repeat some calligraphic lines on top of the note. To do so, we once again need to transfer the calligraphic swirls on to the bill. Once the swirl’s marks are transferred, we can outline in black ink the gaps left behind when making a collage. Special care should be taken in places where the line goes from the banknote to the yellow-brown paper. Note that the curve on the bottom remains under the banknote.
Only practice will help you master your skills of making a collage.
