Hi everyone! I’m Jess, a self-taught artist and I’m entering this competition for a chance to further my passion!

This piece is a digital piece, done in Paint Tool SAI, since I’ve been working with digital art for a while and really like the capabilities it offers. It also saves quite a bit of energy for when I can’t work up the courage to create completely finished artworks!

Art has been one of the constants in my life that I can always depend on. There isn’t really anything quite like that immensely rewarding feeling of finishing a piece, and just sitting back and saying to yourself, “Look! I made that! It might not be very good, but I made it!” There’s just something cathartic about it, and I’m so grateful for the encouragement I receive from friends to continue to love drawing even though sometimes drawing doesn’t love me back.

I’ve recently been having a lot of trouble with focusing on the goals I want in art. There’s so much pressure to find your own style as an artist, and I feel that I haven’t reached that point at all. I’m not even sure where to start. I’d also really like to work on my anatomy skills and toughen up my techniques while I’m at it.

Along with actual techniques, I want to create art that can convey emotion. When I look at professional art, all the intention and hope that they put into the piece are on display. I don’t feel that I’m able to reach that effect with my current skillset.

I really like the idea behind Drawing Academy! I think that anyone who wants to promote creativity and is active in encouraging it totally has the right idea!

I want to win the Drawing Academy course because I’d like to find some direction with where I want to go in art. Even though I only do it as a side passion, and likely will not be doing art as a career, I want to be able to be proud of my art, and to become an artist I would be proud to call myself.

I hope you all enjoy my piece! I would really appreciate if you could vote for me and give a student a great opportunity to do their best in art!
